: Traditional boatbuilding is still in feet/inches and eights. Likely always
: will be. Rare to find plans in metric. Canoes and kayaks seem to be much
: different, depends alot on the individual background of the designer.

I built 2 woodstrip Baidarka's using the metric (cm) offsets from David
Zimmerly's surveys, and I have plans for a Dudley Dix "Didi 26" ( South Africa)
that uses both metric and imperial measurements.

My CAD has a bug that only alows it to display feet ( decimal). That's pretty
useless so I convert by calculator or spreadsheet to metric for plotting the
offsets. I like using metric for offsets, but still use Imperial for other
measurements such as spacing and stringer calculations.

Since it's time consuming to do the manual conversion and then manually create
an offsets page (graphics) in the manual, I usually opt to pass the mundane
conversion task on to builders since some want metric and others Imperial
( feet / inches) :)
