reshaping forms to "fair" them? Nah.

: Hey Paul, do you have one of your super-duper drawings to explain the
: form-fairing procedure and how the strips land on the form edges?

: Glen in Baie-St-Paul.

Nope. sorry. And I probably won't do one, either.

If you want to round over the edges of all your forms, and then place them slightly further from the center of the boat, (an amount equal to 1/2 the thickness of the substrate you made the form from) then go ahead--but I think it adds needless complexity to the process and nets you no gain.

The outside edge of the form is going to make contact with the strip. As long as that outside edge is in the correct place (the proper distance from the center of the boat) the strip will hit that edge and be in the proper place.

With all the glue used in holding those strips to each other I am really happy that there is a bit of a gap between most of the form and the strips. The squeezed out glue could cause a problem. As it is, the strips aren't strongly glued to the forms.

The strips just need to kiss the forms to assume the proper fair curve, and that leading edge -- as it is -- is a great place for them to come together.

Just my opinion on this.
