: When I built my first kayak I was so careful to get all the epoxy smooth.
: sanding -sanding- and more sanding. Then I wanted to get a good finish of
: varnish. In my area, SE Georgia, a lot of the areas I go kayaking have
: oyster beds. I do not aim at them to hit them, but since the water is not
: crystal clear, sometimes you run across some submerged oyster beds. Even
: on a trip down the Etowah River near Atlanta we ran across some unexpected
: 1 and 2 class rapids, not as much damage as oyster beds but did do some
: scratching. So now I know that in the off season, which is not very much
: time, I will do repairs as needed. The repairs will be to make sure I have
: no exposed wood and make sure I have the UV protection. I still get great
: compliments on the wood kayak, usually they do not see the bottom. I have
: learned that the kayak is to be enjoyed instead of hanging in my living
: room like a piece of art.
