: I launched my Cirrus hybrid this spring. I'm 5'6", 135 lbs, and built
: her as a boat for multi day trips in potentially ROUGH water. With only me
: in the boat she is WAY too light. For normal day paddling, I load 25 lbs
: of ballast & she is quite happy. Loaded with me & all my junk
: (combined maybe 200 lbs), she is a dream. So far, the biggest/wind have
: been about 4' & 30 mph. She tracks straight as an arrow, turns easily
: when edged, and is neutral in the wind. She rolls nicely. I have
: "accidently" capsized once, but I was surfing her backwards!

: I built the hull from a kit. The wood is beautiful and the panels match
: nicely. I don't think I could have done any better choosing the ply.
: People admire the deck, but the have to touch the finger joints.

: I could not be happier with the boat, the plans, or with Vaclav. She was my
: first wood boat build & went smoothly with relatively little drama.

: Where do you live? The best idea is to give each a trial run.

Thanks for your response Chuck. I just searched the archive and found your post with the pic of your boat. It is really nice.

I live in upstate NY, about the center of the state. I do have a kinda plan to see and perhaps paddle the merganser (shearwater) next month. The plan is a bit complicated because it involves a family trip to Washington DC. I think it will go like this: "honey, Annapolis is really close, do you mind if I go to CLC Boats for a couple of hours...?"

Hey, I noticed in your previous post that you mentioned "expedition layup". I like the sound of that. What is involved in this type of build?
