Admit me to add just one small thing Paul,

Altough peelply is initially ment for vaccuum bagging, it can be used just as well without. This will result is perfectly wrinklefree surface, with a texture (from the peelply sheet). The surface doesn't need to be sanded at all. In case you let it harden out completely, a fillercoat can be applied w/o sanding. I see it as the ideal working method for the entire inside of a woodstrip kayak or canoe, because I don't like to sand the inside (only needed for a canoe), and I don't like a slippery surface inside.

Another application for peelply are the fillets in Stich&Glue kayaks. Put on the fillet as usual and cover it with a long piece of peelply.

I don't really intend to save any weight using peelply.

The peelply cost really is minimal at my local epoxy store (at least where I buy it), and it saves you a lot of work.
