A hill is an inclined plane. If he was able to slide down it unaided while paddling to steer straight and cleanly (or not) enter the water, then it was a yakboggan launch. All snow we got in October has melted excelt for a little ice so I can't do a yakboggan launch here in Edmonton. The river was badly choked with ice in many places so I had a tough time getting through. I'm now worried that I won't be able to film a proper yakboggan launch into the river because the way the weather looks there may not be any snow before the river freezes up solid.

I posted some pictures of my paddling trip for today. Use the slide show feature, it works beautifully and gets through all the images fairly quickly.
