Dan, that star design looks darn good and gives me some ideas for what I would like to try.

Here's another idea for getting a picture onto your boat - it's something I've done to add colour designs to paddles I've built. First apply a seal coat of epoxy to the wood. Next I use an inkjet printer to print the desired graphic onto one of those clear plastic overhead sheets. (Make sure you use the right type for your printer.) Use epoxy to then glue the design onto the wood and then coat the design and the surrounding area with a couple of coats of epoxy or simply fiberglass over it. The plastic is invisible once it's encased in epoxy.
