Pygmy Boats 45 degree bevel

I just started building an Actic Tern and a couple of days ago and I was curious how the seams would come together on the deck. I was lucky enough to see a finished Coho today by a first time boat builder. The deck seams were very dark and they didn't make a very crisp edge, the epoxy had to be used to fill the gap. I was wondering if I beveled all my edges would they come together better and also what could I fill the gaps with to make them not so dark, is there something to add to the epoxy to lighten it up? I would really appreciate a response, for this is very troubling to me.
