Chip,

When we take the kids canoeing we use a couple of the kids style plastic deck/patio chairs. I would think that there would be enough room in the open cockpit for this style of chair as well. Lop a few inches off the legs to lower the centre of gravity and your in business. Having the back on the chairs keeps the kids much more comfortable, which means you can cover more water between rest stops. The more comfortable the kids are the more they will like paddling. Short spurts of paddling with lots of stops for exploring and picnicing work best for us.

Have fun!!

Ken

: ... and a good idea at that. I have been mulling over seating options for my
: current boat. (unless I change my mind again) the 21' boat will have an
: open cockpit with room for two adults and two small children. I'll use
: conventional tractor/backband seats for the adults and (you guessed it), a
: couple of very small beanbag chairs for the kids.

: I'm still not 100% settled on the idea but comfort is important. Beanbags may
: end up working out okay.
