: hey you make and design s&g yaks - does this make you think about making (for
: an experimental/historical yak) all of your hull panels 1/2 inch or 1.25
: cm wider toward the keel and completely PREglassing and PREfinishing ea
: panel and then overlap sewing them together(say stainless cable or wire or
: something like that) mushing a semi flexible marine sealant (silicone or
: urethane etc.) in between the panels .

hans
you're sorta in the business. If you did have completely prefinished panels that someone just sewed together w/ dumbass sealant inbetween - that sort of sounds like a real quick build, easily supplied and packaged kit for pple in your area that might want something similar to what was built by peoples before

the difficult part might be in keeping the stitching real tight and aligned in the process. If you overlapped the inside edges w/ one part of the stitch - that would align the panels when wire is tight. THe issue of keeping the wires tight could be solved at any or all double thickness holes by driving a pencil sharpener sharpened 1/8in dowel beside the wire just like the historical method. then you could set up for the next stitch.

an idea anyway.
(I just love the simplicity of the wedged clamping method shown on the construction photos)
