It came out quite even. I stained after the round overs and before I joined the hull to the deck. I needed to go over the epoxy at the scarf joints a second time and there are a couple of spots at wire holes that are a little light. I've wondered what would happen if the panels were stained even before scarfing, or if butt joins would stain better.

you can also tint the varnish using Japan colors
