low density polyethylene skin

Thinking about building a collapsible kayak. Wondering if the skin could be done by shrink wrapping low density polyethylene around the frame. This is the stuff used to protect boats for winter and transport. Anyone know if this is doable and how appropriate this material might be?

Thanks,

Joel
