Many people are building strippers with 4 oz. everywhere - so I don't think strength will be an issue. The more open weave you refer to might actually be great. It will probably wet out easier and have greater transparency. Just use one type only for either the deck or the hull since there will be a transparency difference. I'd use the more open stuff for the deck. You can do a compairson wet out test with a scrap.
