Hi Scott. I agree, power tools are great but sometimes they are overkill. Your description is accurate. I took the depth stop off. I'm not using the fence either but I can see how it might help; I held the plane by its sole and used my fingers as a fence. It was easy to hold the right bevel. I had to take care going around each mold. The square edge of the next strip fits perfectly on top of the square edge the fillister cuts; so you're only shaping one side of each strip. Right?... the plane cuts a bevel 90 degrees to the form.

Mike brought up a good point: it probably won't work on the concave curves that make up the (football shaped) hull bottom. The plane will tend to ride on it's toe/heel and the blade will barely touch on those strips; the bullnose or chisel plane might be able to handle it.

Also, the strips aren't self-aligning like bead/cove so take extra care that edges line up. What are you building? I'd be interested to hear how it goes.
