After starting the afore mentioned Keepers/Yakima debate a couple weeks ago, I decided to try the SealLine footbraces. I got them at The Kittery Trading Post (1 800 KTP MAINE) for $50.

The problem I had with them is that they are SO long that they would have changed the hull shape of my Coho. If I had bolted them to the hull I would have gotten a two foot long flat spot or wow in what was previously a reasonably fair hull and made attaching the deck to hull that much harder.

They are also pretty heavy compared to the Keepers that came with the Coho kit.

One other concern I had is that they were designed to be mounted by thru-hull bolts, if you intend to use one of the non thru-hull methods so often described on this BB you would have to machine several new holes all the way through the aluminium body of the footbraces to attach them.

Having said all that they are the new choice of a lot of high end plastic boat builders for a reason. They are easily adjusted while seated, comfortable, and have a very long fore to aft adjustment range.

Hope this helps, MBF
