One thing I'd change about that design is to add a bungee from the brace to the foreward bulkhead. The brace is kept from sliding in one direction with a rope, but nothing prevents it from sliding the other way. I'd have a bungee pull it foreward toward the bulkhead. Normally your feet are pushing on it, but in the even of a wet exit/re-entry, I wouldn't want it possibly moving around.
