There was a discussion on Yakima vs. Keepers footbraces a couple weeks ago, so you might want to do a quick search on that. Both are good. The general consensus was that Keepers, which are all plastic, are less likely to jam with sand than Yakimas, but there have been cases of them failing, so Yakimas (aluminum) are a bit stronger.

There are also another couple kinds of footbraces -- the build-it-yourself wood kind made by Eric Schade at http://www.shearwater-boats.com, and simply padding the bulkhead to create a large, horseshoe-shaped footbrace against the bulkhead.
