: President Bush declared Friday a Day of Prayer and Remembrance.
The Tribune Company's has pledged up to $2.5 million in matching funds for money donated the relief efforts. Here is a blurb from their announcement:

In addition to covering the news, WPIX and Newsday in New York are raising funds to support the victims. Contributions are being matched by The McCormick Tribune Foundation and are being accepted at:
Newsday Charities
Newsday Public Affairs
235 Pinelawn Road
Melville, NY 11747
The foundation is also exploring a variety of ways to raise charitable contributions at our other business units, as well.

What this means is that if you should wish to send money to the relief effort, for every dollar you send to Newsday's fund, or WPIX's fund, Tribune company will donate a matching dollar. Effectively this doubles the value of what you send.
Unfortunately, I don't know eactly where the money is going to go. You'll have to call Newsday Charities and ask them before you decide on sending your money here or to some other charity, such as the red cross or a bloodbank.
