In Response To: How "shortly" is shortly? (Shawn Baker)

Hi Shawn.

I'm using System Three's Clear Coat, which takes about a week to fully cure. I'm not too worried about it, when I did the hull, pausing a day or two between fill coats (without sanding) had no adverse affects, though that was in June and it was a bit cooler.

After some final hand-sanding on the recess, I'll probably clean the sanding dust residue out of the garage tonight, then do the sealer coat. I may do the fillet in the morning [Thursday] and just hit the office later, and follow up with fiberglass on Friday. I work for a software company and we have just released a major upgrade requiring loads of my time, so they owe me time right about now. They don't argue about short days or coming in late at this point. They actually encourage it, at least for a few weeks more.

For everyone else out there, I'm not too worried about the fillet showing up either. I've got this maroon/red tinted thixotropic filler that I think might actually look cool around that joint, so I plan to use it plus some sanding dust to compose the schmutz for the filler.

I'll respond to this thread when I have some pictures of how it's going. Thanks again, everyone, for all of your advice and help.

: I'm no expert on glassing after fill coats, so others may want to weigh in
: here. If you wait too long (like a week), then your fill coat has started
: to cure, and you won't get a good chemical bond with your glass coat.

: If it was me (and I have a hard time missing work), I'd fill coat Thursday
: night, fillet Friday morning, and use as much of my Saturday as I'd need
: for glassing.

: "Overnight" isn't going to be a problem. You don't need to get up
: at 2:00am to start glassing after fill coating at 6:00pm and filleting at
: 11:00pm the previous evening. Gotta have a life outside of boats, right?
: Right? Hmm...nobody is backing me up :D
