i like the other suggestions and here are 2 more - one symbolic, one personal, but that relate to us builders and the topics that we think about. i've been contemplating various possibilities since your post yesterday. please forgive me if any of this sounds flip or silly, i'm sincere here.

For the symbolic one maybe just handing out or expecting pple to wear say a black ribbon or black pc of appropriate mat'l to us(1/2in sq black strip, 1/8ply, pc of nylon skin), but heres another - I would hand out to everyone attending - a simple ordinary basic steel nail. a nail is something that everyone(certainly here)knows or uses to put things back together, to build, to fix. it implies the bringing together of broken or separate parts, progress and resolve. and if bent, it can be straightened and employed. it can sybolize intent - those responsible will be nailed. one end is sharp purpose, the other blunt resolve. (as an item, its readily available and pins into clothing not unlike any stick pin-even a thin finishing nail is nicely appropriate)

and the second idea is to take one of the seminar topics - the survival one by
!russ - and ask him to expand it or put another on to include some urban survival. (from some private e-mails, i think he is a student of this). i know the bldgs fell down, but if damaged only, what basic knowledge or 'ditchkit' might one consider?
