I am struggling with a design change we discussed...foregoing the recessed front coaming because of my size. 6'1" and 200+ lbs. I'm on the high end of the SS weight range. I was comfortable in my girlfriend's Tern 14' with an eleven inch coaming/deck height. So I may stick with the original SS plans with the idea that I won't be using the SS for any long camping trips but for several hours of paddling at a time, the day paddling approach. I really like the way the top deck fairs into the front recessed coaming and I'm concerned that if I leave it raised it WILL detract from the lines of the boat. Heck, this is part of the fun of building!
