: I purchased some kevlar shears to cut my 1.8oz cloth. The shears have a fine serration on the cutting edge. The serration holds the kevlar in place as it is cut. Any brand new shears with a serration will work.

: Once the epoxy sets, regular sissors will cut the kevlar.
: Once the epoxy sets, razor blades will cut the epoxy.

: 1.8oz kevlar does not conform well to the CLC plywood boats.
: If you use 1 piece for the whole bottom, lay the cloth on the bias as much as possible. You will still need to cut atleast 2 darts on one side to get the cloth flat.

: Sanding kevlar is impossible. The cloth fuzzes as it it cut.

: If you put the cloth on and let it age for 1 week, you can pull the cloth off of the boat by hand -- the epoxy fails before the cloth does.

: Kevlar is a real bad choice.

: : I am about to cover my latest project with 1.8 oz. Kevlar. My question is about cutting the stuff. Will a simple razor do the job? Sizzors? Should the material be trimed before bedding into epoxy? I am building a CLC style deck so the sheer must be rounded. This requires cutting into the plywood at the center of the boat. The reading I've done indicates the stuff will not file well. Ant ideas would be of great help. Thanx in advance. Rich Glass----(the gear man)

I must agree Kevlar is Not the way to go. It is a pig to work, final finish if not off a mould or peel ply is almost as bad as chopped strand. A good E glass will provide all the protection needed.

By the way do any of you Imperial people have a table of cloth weights in OZ/ft2 compared to gr/m2
