: nelson I might have the same sort of problem, there seems to be this bulge in
: my body so I can't see my feet anymore,.... oh well. I just ordered the
: plans for the great big auk. Would it be alright if I picked your brain on
: occasion, I wouldn't necessarily be through the bbs. When you get done
: with the auk, make sure to post pictures. I know that pictures are one of
: the things that has kept my interest up.

With my very limited experiance I woul offer two pieces of advice.

1. Check to see if you'll be comfortable paddling a boat this wide. I'm 6'3" with a 37" sleeve length (we won't talk about any other measurements). Check with wiser heads than mine to see if the GB Auk suits your own unique body. The only boats I've found close to this wide were "sit on top" and plastic but I felt comfortable with the width. My wife (who is 5'10")wants something narrower.

2. Once you get the plans and an idea how you want it to look, just get started. If I had spent a hour building for every hour studying, planning, daydreaming and reading this websight (informative and fun as it may be) I'd be done.
Good luck, I hope it doesn't sound like I'm trying to talk you out of the GB Auk. I'm having the time of my life building it and I know I'll enjoy paddling it. N.
