In Response To: Yakima vs Keepers (Matthew)

: Is it worth upgrading to Yakima footbraces?
: Are Keepers that bad?
: Is Yakima pretty much the industry standard?

: I am very close to joining the deck to hull and plan to use the non-through
: hull method of attaching footbraces, probably the Newfound Woodworks
: footbrace studs.

: I prefer durability, reliability and buying once to saving a few bucks.
: Any thoughts, advice, comments or jokes before I join top and bottom
: (hopefully) forever would be greatly appreciated.

: Thanks, M.

I just test paddled Necky's new Elaho - nice boat for plastic. No rudder, just a skeg. One of the nicest features were the plastic footbraces. They were a bit longer than both the Keepers and the Yaks. They also seemed to be mounted lower in the hull than other boats. They felt great. I asked Necky if they'd sell me a set. They told me any Necky dealer can order them for $40.00. By this time, I'd already installed my Yak's in my S&G boat. Next time I'm going for the Necky's though.
