The keepers aren't bad. The only problems I've seen are installations where the rail was bent (P&H Sirius) or a panic crash/brace at the beach and one popped off. But the boat I've had the most surf use hasn't had them pop off. The yakimas are a real bear to adjust when gritty with sand. If you paddle for a few years and you don't like them you can always try something else.
