I can tell you from bitter experience, that if you don't put the rocker in as per the design, everything else will be out of kilter, and the boat will look funny. The first two kayaks I built as a teenager were from magazine plans, and the article didn't mention blocking up the ends as you build the boat. I guess they thought you'd know that (*sigh*) Just put the 1 1/2" in...
