Jim,
You might want to consider splashing white paint on the walls before you varnish. I had to add 600W of incandescant light above the strongback to see well enough to even get a half decent coat. It still isnt enough light, but adding the window helped. You dont want me to varnish your boat. Just take a close look at my varnish job...

I know well how the necessity goes around here, I had to wire mine and frame the walls before I could insulate. It was almost a year before I had heat. I envy your nice flat floor with no pits or loose surface on it. One of the reasons I agreed to buy this place was the slab that was outside, where there had been a shop several years ago. My brother-in-law's brother's shop as a matter of fact - Oak Unlimited is his company now. He had a fire... And then the slab asat for fifteen years or so, freezing and cracking and peeling. I stuck the biggest shell I could affore right over the center part of the slab. One day if I have the funds I'll add 1-1/2" to the floor and make it nice and smooth, and epoxy coat it.

Or, I'll build a bigger boat...

: I have lots of finishing to do in it. I only got the insulation and inside
: walls and wood stove installed out of neccesity (I had to be able to get
: it warm enough for the epoxy to cure). I still need to paint all the walls
: white and build cabinets.
: With 14' eves, it is nice to be able to stand 18' boards on end. Also, I can
: do end pours inside (although I haven't done any yet). I think the peak is
: over 20'.
: Hey Don, if you would like to try out my shop, you could sand down my Spring
: Run and varnish it for me. The Chesepeake could use a couple more coats of
: varnish and paint as well.(How do you insert those little smileys)?
