: I found this compass in the auto dept. at Walmart for $2.25. The ball section
: is 1 1/2" and the suctions cup holds it on. It also floats. The
: suction cup could be glued on and the compass pulled out of the cup and
: stored until it is to be used. It can be mounted in any direction.

Another 2 cents- I've purchased several of these compasses and found they are cheap $#!+. A bit of exposure to the sun and the fluid pressure becomes so high that the plastic cracks (loud) and squirts mineral oil. This happened with mere sun exposure outdoors (I tried one outside after the first one exploded in my car- What a mess!) At any price, this cheap compass is no bargain. Don't know what mineral oil might react with when it comes to your boat, camping equipment, and one's eyes.

BWCA 2 cents... Had lots of animal trouble there with... squirrels! They were relentless! At one island camp they had us surrounded. There must have been a dozen, all chattering. A nap was out of the question. The moment you tried to rest, they came for your dry bags, packs, etc. These bushy tailed rats can climb the ropes you tie your food up with, so one's food must have extra security. One person suggested using a frisbee (hole through the middle) for a squirrel excluder. An ammo can or other chew proof container (suspended) might be another solution.

I beached my canoe to answer natures call and returned to find a squirrel had gnawed its way into my pack after a candy bar. It was less than 2 minutes later!

One more cent and we'll have a whole nickel. I'll have to add something later!
