Don,
I,ve built two boats using redwood and have found that using a combination of both the sanding dust from the redwood and Colloidal silica seems to make the best filler. The redwood dust provides the color and the Cab-O-Sil lightens it a bit and smooths it out. I.ve found that pure sanding dust to be a bit to chunky for really good filler. Hope this helps.
