A very long time ago (like, 35 years) I am sure I saw a design for a high-performance outboard motor boat that was constructed by stretching glass cloth over a frame, and putting resin on it. I don't remember the details, but I am sure it was not a plug-and-mold job. I have wondered, on long dark evenings, about doing what you suggest, with fibreglass. It will be interesting to see what anyone else has to offer.
