: what are you using for filler on your boats?

: Les

I just don't make any mistakes. Who needs putty??? :)

Yeh, Right!!

Actually, I've only built the Walrus and haven't worried about fillers as of yet. It's all covered up with canvas.

My woodworking days and I parted company around 6 or 7 years ago when the Post Office offered me 3 times as much money as I was making there. In those days, Before the majority of the water based materials came about, I used one of two things.

On the less expensive pieces I used DAP fillers and they also offered a solvent that thinned it. On the expensive pieces I used Linseed Oil Putty and mixed it with the stain I used on projects, and thickened it with corn starch. That way, I could mix up several colors per piece as there were always different grain patterns and colors. My fillers Never showed.

On the most expensive projects, I took my chisel and cut up a slice of wood where the nails were going and when the nail was set under it, I glued the " Peel " back down. Sanded and finished, you could not see any traces of where they were.

However, none of this is even remotely useful on these boats as they all use an oil based product and would give epoxy fits. So, disregard everything I've said here and have a nice day. :)

After the R2K1 meet, I'll be starting my Great Auk and then we'll see what cooks at that time. More later,
