Thanks, Keith

I was avoiding using epoxy because it cures so much harder than wood. I expected (and was advised) that this would create difficulties during sanding, with the cedar being removed much faster than the filler.

When you use Durham's with epoxy, I suspect that it is behaving like any inert filler (such as microballoons), and just thicking the epoxy. Durham's is gypsum-based and needs water to "set up".

: Hi Les,

: You used water? On my stitch and glue deck seams, I used the dry Durham's
: powder, wood flour and epoxy... just using the Durham's to lighten up the
: color of wood flour a bit.

: I used: - 7 teaspoons of wood flour (not sure which wood, it came with my
: Pygmy Arctic Tern kit)
: - 2 teaspoons of dry, Durham's water putty powder
: - mixed into 1 and 1/2 ounce of epoxy and hardener (System Three)

: The color might be a tad too light but I haven't glassed the deck yet so I'm
: not sure.

: I don't think it hides the deck seems much anyway because the resulting
: mixture isn't entirely opaque. I can still see the darker edge grain of
: the mahogony plywood under the putty. But it may work better for your use.
