In Response To: s&g questions (mark)

: 1. Is there a putty or something that can be used hide the wire tie holes on
: my hull panels.

: 2. How far behind the backband should the cockpit opening be.

: 3. Has anyone used 2" minicell for bulkheads. The 3" seems really
: thick and heavy. I was thinking about slicing alittle off for other parts
: of the boat.

: 4. The hull panels are slightly unfair running along the chines of my boat.
: Also the panel joins at the bow and stern mismatch by about an eighth of
: an inch. Like a dummy I glued it all together already.....

: Is this not uncommon. Will the boat paddle in circles or something.

I can only answer what I know about and that would be the tie holes. Did you space them fairly evenly along the seams. As in.. 2" apart, or 3" apart?? If so, I wouldn't try to hide the holes. Most putties will not come out exactly the same and will still show. I would take a 1/8" or 3/16" bit, depending on what size dowels you can find, and redrill the holes up into the plywood about through, and cut contrasting colored dowels and plug the holes and sand them off after the glue dries. Let people see what you put them together with. You could even drill across from one hole to the other ( opposite ) and run the dowel through and cut it off to flush or near flush and sand even. Will look Trick !! Helps if the holes are all about the same spacing. If not, you might consider some wood flour from you sanding of the plywood, and maybe some cooking flour to lighten the color to match.

My thought is: make it a contrast rather than try to match and only get it close. Hope this Helps!!
