If you're in Pullman (guessing from your wsu.edu email address), get over to NRS in Moscow and buy whatever they have in their sale corner. Most any sea kayak float bag will conform to fit your compartments. NRS's neoprene Kilt sprayskirts are about 60% of full retail price. Bungie rand is nice on wood boats.

I like the "Leidy Lids" style hatches--they don't kick spray up in your face, and are reasonably secure and watertight.
