Don't know how long the strip will need to be, but I would caution against that supplier. I bought milled strips from them for my first boat, and the quality was questionable.

My second boat I milled my own strips from lumber at home depot with much better results. I don't know if my results are typical, but for what you pay, I don't think the quality is there.

Good luck

: I've just started the process of making my first kayak, a Guillemot Double
: using Nick's book. While I'm completing the forms want to order the wood.
: I'd prefer to use a few full length strips around the shear line, and was
: wondering how long they will need to be for this kayak. The place I'm
: buying the wood from (Flounder Bay Boat Lumber) has a 20'7" cedar
: board in their yard, but I'm not sure if this will be long enough. Does
: anyone know just how long the shear line is for the kayak? I can figure it
: out myself in a few days (after the forms are on the strongback), but
: wanted to get the wood order going ASAP.

: Thanks for any help.
