: Since this helicopter tape is made of .010" vinyl, I really have to
: wonder how durable it will be when you grind your hull on rocks. You may

The Helicopter tape is Urathane protective tape. It is made by 3M and its marketed as protective tape for the automotive market. It is very pricy but it works well. iI have been using it on the kell and as rub rails on my last three boats. It is very tough and it last for a long time. If it gets torn up after bout with a rough rock, you can peel it off and replace it. I did have a little trouble with adhesion in real cold weather (15 degrees F) but you can get a primer to help this problem. It comes in a couple of thickness and it is transparent enough it looks good on the boat. I think you might be able to find it at an automotive paint store? McMaster Carr used to carry it.
