I've just built my second CLC boat. The first was a Chesapeake 17 (built from plans) and the latest is a North Bay XL (built from a kit). My younger brother who is 6'2" and pushing 290 was able to fit (admittedly like a cork :-) ) into the 17 which has quite a voluminous cockpit area. (He would NOT have fit into the North Bay...) You would have NO problem with either the CLC 17 or 18.

Another plus of the CLC 17's design is very good tracking and cargo space for additional gear. In short, it's an excellent all-around boat. (Added note: Based on my experience with the North Bay, the "fit and finish" of CLC's kits is outstanding.)

I'm sure others here can comment on the Pygmy designs as well as other S&G providers. People here are pretty generous with their opinions and I've yet to hear anything other than good about Pygmy and their boats.
