I had a temporay pity relasps.

I am pasting an e-mail from the tech department from Minwax about their Helmsman Polyurethane. I was going to use this and I know some on the board already have but I won't now. My experience a long time ago was that polyurethane outlasted Marine spar varnish that I used on two different boats. But the urethane was used just on the trim and mast. Anyway, Minwax has to be the final authority on their own product.

Thanks for contacting Minwax Technical Service.
Helmsman Spar Urethane is not a true Marine Varnish. It is a finish that can be
used on trim and not an entire boat.
When we get this question regarding boating applications, we recommend the
marine base varnishes found at boating or marine stores. It will hold up longer
to the environment and protect your surface better.
Our spar urethane is made for trim such as, window sills, doors, small outdoor
furniture and some areas for the interior.

Subject: Helmsman

Is Helmsman Spar Urathane OK to use on a wood boat? I also am wondering why I
can buy a can of Helmsman's for about $8 and some marine varnishes cost $30?
What is the difference?

Thank you,
John
