: OK, I swung a Greenland paddle the other day and was hooked. I'd like to take
: a first attempt at building one. I am a novice woodworker, but I've got
: some plans from the net.

: My question is, what is a good wood to work with? Should I go with a single
: 2/4/8 or laminate one. What are the advantages of the various woods and
: layups?

: I know these are pretty open-ended questions, but I appreciate any feedback.

Gary, if you are a novice woodworker, Buy a nice straight 2x4 from your local hardware store. $2.75 is alot easier to learn on than a $20.00 cedar 2x4. If you like your results then start experimenting, with laminating etc. the up side to making one out of pine or hem-fir is you will always have a back-up once you make a nice one.

Have fun, Elliott
