I agree almost completely. It is a great design, but the drawback seems to be that everyone's coaming looks exactly the same now. Most everyone tries to get creative with their deck stripping patterns, deck fittings, etc., but then installs what's become the standard coaming. I think Ross' carbon-fibre coaming is a breath of fresh air -- unique, cool-looking, and probably stronger than a flak jacket. But I'd hate to see everyone adopt that idea, too. One of the best things about this site is seeing all the cool, different stuff that everyone's doing.

Just some cerebral flatulations from a non-conformist...:)

: I was on Ross Ledy's site admiring the web page design as well as his
: craftsmanship and enthusiasm and something occured to me that I have told
: many people. Nick is truly the unsung hero with his coaming design. The
: idea os using virtical strips to make it is actrally great. Almost
: everybody uses it and it actually defies common sense yet it's a great way
: to achieve a hard-to-do detail on the kayak. Nick should get credit for
: this inventive detail that we all take for granted.
