Doug,
My compliments on a well-done website detailing the construction of your North Star. It looks like the stern and bow are challenging but well worth the effort. Beautiful, elegant kayak!
I'm new to kayaking, will be taking a sea kayaking course here in Cleveland in July. I've been paddling a Dagger Edisto plastic yak I picked up from Ross Leidy (14'6" plastic expedition yak with rudder and 23" beam). I'm 2/3 the way through building a 17" Arctic Tern and considering building a Shooting Star or North Star for a fall project.
So, any comments on the stability of the North Star? Stable enough for fishing or photography? Is it forgiving or does it require expert roll technique? It looks so sleek and fast it makes me wonder if it's a bit "tender". Any thoughts about building it with 1/8" strips and reinforcing accordingly? Perhaps using kevlar roving for inner hull reinforcement?
