In Response To: Times up can I varnish next winter (Paul Pinder)

: I have run out of time and I want to be on the water. Can anyone tell me if I
: can use my kayak without paint or varnish for a couple of months (If I
: keep it out of major sun and in fresh water only).
: All comments would be helpful .....thanks

One day later this month, or early next month, you just have to get off the water an hour earlier than usual. You pull your kayak out of the water, lightly sand it and wipe off the dust. Then put on a coat of varnish before calling it a night. The next morning you have a varnished boat (only one coat, but heck, it is a start) A week later you repeat the process. In three weeks you have few coats of varnish on the boat giving it the UV protection it needs.

hope this helps
