: What do you think about no floor boards, can the bottom panels glued together
: and the deck beams be enough to keep the sucker from becoming a folding
: kayak?

If you go with just about anything over 4mm thick you will be basically duplicating the floor structure of most stitch and glue designs, but you'll have the added bracing and strength of the internal keelson, that center strip of wood.

Why not go the cheap route and try this with inexpensive lauan in the 5.5 mm or nominal 1/4 inch thickness. If you rip a 4x8 panel into 2 panels that are 2x8, and then scarf them together for a 2 x 16 foot piece you should have enough material for the floor.

If that is a bit short, or narrow, you may need to make paper patterns and use them to more efficiently cut pieces from the 4x8 panel. After you assemble the wood frame just cover the bottom with sheets of newspapers, which you can hold in place with a few staples from a common desktop stapler. Overlap the pages and use tape or a dry glue glue stick to connect them. A sharp knife or single edge razor will trim away any paper that over laps the edges, then pull the few staples and remove your pattern. If you have to piece togeth wood parts, cut them 2 inches longer than you expect the final size to be, to allow for a scarf joint. Draw some alignment marks on your pattern papers, and transfer these to the wood parts so you can align things when scarfing.

hope this helps
