Hmmmmm -- if these techno-gadgets acually serve to reinforce a deflated morale on a trip, are they worth bringing?

My Magellan 12 -- really basic $90 job and water resistant to boot -- has the speedometer function as well, and has been handy. It's kind of neat to see how wind and waves affect your speed. I haven't even bothered to figure out how to do the waypoints and routes, but at least I can see how fast I'm getting lost! It also has an odometer function that lets you know how far you've gone since you last knew where you were...
