Molding as alternative material for coaming lip?

Hello all,
I'm just getting ready to build up the coaming lip on my Guillemot, and since I no longer have any full length strips, I went searching at Home Depot. I found some "clearwood" molding, and am thinking that I found the motherload for coaming lips. It says it can be painted or stained (my view- should hold epoxy and fiberglass), doesn't split, and cuts like "real wood!" Best of all, it's EXTREMELY flexible! I can bend it completely around without any problems. It's ash colored, but I'm not really sure of the composition. My question is: Has anybody tried this? Is there anything I'm missing? I was planning on roughing the surface up before putting the epoxy on, and would be psyched to not have to set up the shower as a steamer again!

I thank you all for the variety of excellent posts on the digest, and TIA for any help with this one-

Charlotte
