Record Spokeshave Tuning Questions

I've been using a Record spokeshave (flat shoe) for paddle making and have encountered a couple of issues that I hope the experts out there can help me resolve. For the record (no pun intended), the blade is VERY sharp, thanks to diamond hones, a 6000 grit waterstone and a Power Strop.

I've noticed that the cap (or frog, or whatever it's called on a spokeshave) does not fit tightly against the iron at the front edge (like the cap on a jack plane blade). This allows shavings to get caught underneath it and build up in a wad. The need for frequent clearing of this buildup is aggravating, to say the least, and often causes the spokeshave to slip. Should I reshape it to fit flush and tight to the blade?

Also, how close to the edge of the iron should the front edge of the cap be?

Finally, does anyone know if Record has a web site?

Thanks

Brian
