I am lofting for the first time, so I'm confused by the offsets that apply to forms #8, 9, & 10, where there are no offsets given for the buttocks that intersect the cockpit area (I am using the tables in Nick Schade's "The Strip-Built Sea Kayak"). Here's what I can't figure out: (1) do the offsets given for the cockpit create another point on the curve of the form (2) does the "height" indicated for the cockpit mean the height from the DWL (3) when completing the shape of a form (i.e. #10) to cross from the highest deck buttock point on one side to that corresponding to the other side do I create a fair curve that extends above the height of the cockpit and then cut the form along the cockpit height and hot-melt glue the piece back to the form to keep the stripping of the deck fair? I find this particular detail of the lofting confusing; for instance, on form #10 the offsets for the cockpit creat a point that does not naturally fall on the curve of the deck offsets but appears above and to the side of the form's curve (I have checked the offsets for the deck buttocks/waterlines, and they appear to be correct.)
