Varnishing over epoxy

I soon will be ready to varnish my Georgian Bay. Rob Macks in the instruction book warns about some varnishes not taking to epoxy and not hardening enough to sand. He suggests using a water based varnish. I'm fussy about varnishes and I've found some bad ones in my years of finishing my wooden boats. I've settled in on Epifanes for its great qualities too numerous for this posting. In reading the label it doesn't mention how it is on epoxy. I've also had good luck with Captain's varnish. Suggestions or experiences you may have had?
