Compass Recess *Pic*

I've always thought the compass recess built into the VCP boats was cool-looking. I thought it would be an interesting project to try to build one out of wood. Recently, I sent out a few emails to some folks on the bbs who had mentioned that they owned VCP boats, asking some questions about the shape and dimensions of the recess. Thanks to those who responded, but especially to Jack Martin who provided some very detailed measurments and descriptions. I appreciated all the info.

I've put a couple construction photos on the OI page. Here's the recess temporarily installed in a deck mock-up. I'll still need to do some final fitting when it goes into the OI, but I think it will work out.
