Ray Greene has died at 88. Mr. Greene was the original builder of the Rebel sailboat and is credited with being the first to use fiberglass with polyester resin in boatbuilding. That makes him a key figure in the development of the technology that (mostly) killed off traditional wooden boatbuilding AND laid the groundwork for our hobby.

The obit quotes a book called "Heart of Glass: Fiberglass Boats and the Men Who Built Them" that might be a good read when the shop is too cold for the epoxy to gell.
